Job Overview:
A prominent law firm is seeking a Junior Associate to support its National Security and International Trade regulatory practice in Washington, D.C. The ideal candidate will possess 2–3 years of relevant experience in regulatory compliance, including export/import controls, sanctions, and foreign investment issues. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with experienced attorneys on high-impact legal matters and gain increasing responsibility and client exposure.

Location:

  • Washington, D.C.

Duties:

  • Provide counsel on U.S. export and import control regulations (e.g., EAR, ITAR)

  • Advise on compliance with U.S. sanctions laws and programs administered by OFAC

  • Assist clients with foreign ownership, control, or influence (FOCI) mitigation measures

  • Support filings and due diligence processes related to CFIUS reviews

  • Collaborate with senior attorneys on strategic international trade matters

  • Draft and review regulatory compliance documents and client advisories

  • Monitor regulatory changes and interpret impact for clients

  • Contribute to internal legal research and client development initiatives

Requirements:

  • 2–3 years of experience in national security or international trade law

  • Demonstrated familiarity with relevant regulatory regimes, including sanctions and export controls

  • Strong analytical and writing skills

  • Ability to manage projects independently and meet tight deadlines

  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and client-focused work ethic

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited U.S. law school

Certifications:

  • Admission to the bar in the District of Columbia (or eligibility to waive in promptly)

Skills:

  • Excellent legal research and writing capabilities

  • Effective interpersonal and client communication skills

  • Ability to handle sensitive and complex regulatory matters
