Job Title: Junior Associate Attorney

Job Overview:
A Jamaica, NY-based law firm with a strong community focus is seeking a Junior Associate to support its growing family law and immigration practice, particularly in cases involving Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS). This position offers an opportunity for hands-on client work, courtroom appearances, and mentorship from experienced practitioners. Ideal for recent law graduates or entry-level attorneys with a strong desire to serve immigrant and underserved populations.

Duties:

  • Represent clients in status conferences and hearings before family and immigration courts

  • Prepare and file legal documents, including motions, petitions, waivers, and appeals

  • Review and revise documentation prepared by support staff

  • Independently manage a caseload under supervision

  • Provide legal guidance and advocacy to clients from intake to resolution

  • Conduct legal research and remain current on changes in immigration and juvenile law

  • Appear virtually and in person for court proceedings

  • Communicate with clients regularly in a culturally sensitive and professional manner

Requirements:

  • Admission to practice law in New York

  • Willingness and ability to handle a high-volume caseload

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and manage competing priorities

  • Demonstrated interest or experience in juvenile or immigration law (clinical, internship, or externship experience acceptable)

  • Comfortable working in a collaborative environment

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Active New York State Bar License

  • Admission to additional jurisdictions such as New Jersey, Connecticut, or relevant Federal District Courts is advantageous

Skills:

  • Spanish language fluency preferred

  • Legal drafting and analytical skills

  • Strategic thinking under pressure

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and virtual court platforms (e.g., Zoom, Teams)
