Advice to law firm management: Read reviews...
Pros: A job...
Cons: Excessive Fees, Poor Communication, and Unethical Practices...
I retained The Spiggle Law Firm for an employment dispute in early 2025. What followed was one of the most disappointing legal experiences I've encountered.
Despite being told I had a strong case, I was routed through non-attorney staff for weeks before speaking with a lawyer. The recommendation was a demand letter—yet the firm charged over $3,000 for this limited service, in a case where my claim was worth less than $2,000. I repeatedly expressed concern about disproportionate billing, but those concerns were ignored.
Communication was inconsistent, and I felt unsupported during critical moments. I ultimately filed a fee arbitration with the Virginia State Bar due to what I believe were excessive and unjustified charges.
Unfortunately, my experience aligns with numerous others. Many former clients report being charged $8,000–$40,000 for basic services like demand letters or EEOC filings—some of which are available for free. Other former clients have reported issues including fee disputes, leading to filings for fee arbitration with the Virginia State Bar, and concerns about unprofessional conduct by firm members. There are also troubling reports of attorneys being terminated mid-case without notice, missed deadlines, and a general lack of accountability.
Employee reviews also highlight diverse experiences—some praise generous pay and a flexible work environment, while others criticize out-of-touch management and a problematic internal culture. One former employee reported that the firm encouraged staff to solicit positive reviews from family members, raising serious ethical concerns. Others have described the firm as profit-driven and client-apathetic, despite representing individuals in precarious employment situations. Concerns about management's approach to employees and client interactions are recurring themes in negative reviews.
Additional feedback from Google and Birdeye reviews echoes these concerns:
• Management Issues: Some former employees describe leadership as out of touch, lacking basic legal knowledge, and implementing outdated policies.
• Culture Shift: There are signs of the firm becoming increasingly profit-driven, leading to a client-apathetic atmosphere despite its plaintiff-side mission.
• Work-Life Balance: While some praise flexibility, others report growing restrictions on remote work and mandatory in-office days, undermining the firm's earlier promises.
The firm appears heavily focused on marketing and self-promotion, but fails to deliver competent, transparent legal representation. While some clients may have had positive outcomes, many others express serious concerns about fee disputes, unprofessional conduct, and a profit-driven approach.
I do not recommend The Spiggle Law Firm to anyone seeking ethical, client-centered legal support.
