Should I start writing articles and try to get attention?

"I'm in my last year of law school and I'm clerking for a judge next year after graduation. I'd like to start writing articles and do what I can to get attention. Both from a future firm and clients. Does this work the same for a student? I guess I feel odd as a student writing articles about such things."

I don't know that you need to write articles at this point about anything, you need to figure out what you're going to do. My advice for new attorneys, and people that are still in law school is to use law school, to figure out the types of practice areas, that interest you and the type of work that interests you the most and to just get the best jobs you can.

Then when you're clerking on the same thing, throw yourself into that work. When you start a job after clerking for yourself into that, and things will come up. And remember the left brain stuff, are you more math and science, or are you more reading and writing. Think about how you can specialize. Always look at what you're doing as a way to specialize, but all this stuff doesn't become important to even working for a couple of years. You need to just get as much experience as you can early on.
