"I'm a new attorney work in civil litigation. I enjoy it because it is not extremely difficult, and I've had time to pursue other activities, just to build new software ideas. I am passionate about legal tech, but I don't think I want to work in the field because it would turn into work. Do you think practicing as an attorney and doing tech stuff on the side would benefit me in the long run? I'm not putting the tech stuff on my resume."
Yes. I do think that an interest in technology and doing tech stuff will be very helpful for you. Most attorneys, that do things related to their interest outside of practicing law can put those interests into law firm, and it's very useful. So anything that you're interested in, like software and so forth, can be useful.
I don't think litigation is not extremely difficult. It can be extremely difficult. And so you may just not be in a very difficult firm or doing very difficult work at the moment. I would recommend that you do what you can to find something that takes into account legal tech, or patent prosecution, or something to do with software or IP licensing. Because if you're very passionate about something and it's related to the practice of law, you're probably going to do much better in it. Typically, people that have outside passions and are able to incorporate that into what they do, end up doing very well. And that's something that I would recommend for you.
