"Harrison, is it inappropriate or frowned upon for lateral corporate associates to provide a prospective employer a letter of recommendation from a current client. I finished three rounds with an AmLaw 50 law firm for a mid level associate position. It's been a week of radio silence. I have a client who would like to write a glowing recommendation. Wondering if it would help or hurt or make no difference?"
I think it's great. Yeah, you can, if you're a corporate associate, I'm not sure that it is a good idea to have the client write a letter of recommendation, just because it may look like you've gotten too close to the client and that may actually show them that you could be a threat. So I would be very careful about that. You want to be as careful as you possibly can with that. It could help if it was your client, but if it's not your client, I just think you need to be careful. And so I think it could actually hurt. So you have to be very careful about that,
If it's been a week of radio silence, typically what that means is that the firm may be interviewing other people or they just haven't had the opportunity to meet, or they may have another offer out, but if they give you three rounds of interviews, then that's a very good sign and you may just have to wait.
