"When you're applying to market you're not from with no connections, is it appropriate just to say you're interested in relocating, and like that city? What is the best way to show that you will stay at the firm long-term?"
You have to talk about why you're relocating there, and some sort of connection if you have it. If you don't have any connection then you just don't even need really to bring it up. You may wanna say something about what the firm does, if it's very close to your practice area. So for example, if your background is in education law, you may wanna say that you're applying to the firm because they do education law and leave it at that. If you're an education law attorney, that's all you need. If you're a corporate attorney, it's very common for corporate attorneys all over the country to move to places like Palo Alto and New York, and people do not question why they're doing that. Same thing a lot of times with patent attorneys that do biotech patents moving to Boston. So you don't always need to answer those questions, but that's not that important.
