Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Virginia-licensed attorney with 3-5 years of experience to defend health care practitioners in licensing and credentialing matters in Virginia. The role involves working with the Department of Health Professions, the DEA, DMAS/CMS, third-party payors, hospital systems, and other related entities.

Duties

  • Provide legal representation for practitioners in licensing Board investigations through resolution, including informal and formal administrative hearings.
  • Represent clients in matters related to DEA certificates of registration and show cause hearings.
  • Manage audits and appeals involving DMAS, CMS, and third-party payers.
  • Assist with credentialing by third-party payers and hospital medical staffs.
  • Advise on credentialing issues and peer review processes.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations, including risk management, medical record documentation, HIPAA, and cybersecurity concerns.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience in administrative law and administrative hearings.
  • Ability to handle sensitive issues with professionalism and discretion.
  • General knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Proficiency in handling an independent caseload.
  • Skillful communication with clients.
  • Strong writing ability.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree.

Certifications

  • Licensed to practice law in Virginia.

Skills

  • Direct knowledge of the federal and state laws and regulations governing health care providers.
  • Experience with False Claims Act issues, Stark/Anti-Kickback compliance.
  • Prior experience in medical-related representation.
  • Law firm or government agency experience.
