Job Overview:
A prominent law firm based in Portland, OR, is seeking a skilled associate attorney to join its Intellectual Property practice, with a specialized focus on Hatch-Waxman litigation and regulatory frameworks governing pharmaceutical patent disputes. This role is ideal for candidates with a science background and a demonstrated ability to manage complex litigation across all phases, from pleadings to expert discovery. The position is offered through a leading legal recruiting firm on behalf of the hiring law firm.

Duties:

  • Manage and support pharmaceutical patent litigation matters under the Hatch-Waxman Act

  • Draft legal briefs, motions, and correspondence in support of litigation strategy

  • Oversee and engage in all aspects of discovery, including depositions of fact and expert witnesses

  • Conduct legal and technical research and analysis about life sciences patent claims

  • Collaborate with litigation teams and coordinate with clients regarding litigation strategy and timelines

  • Contribute to case strategy, trial preparation, and appellate matters as needed

  • Work closely with regulatory teams on FDA-related legal issues

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of recent experience in Hatch-Waxman litigation within a law firm setting

  • Demonstrated expertise in pharmaceutical patent law

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • High level of organization and attention to detail

  • Proven ability to work on multiple matters simultaneously in a collaborative team setting

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Admission to a U.S. State Bar and active good standing

Skills:

  • Legal writing and research proficiency

  • In-depth understanding of the Hatch-Waxman Act and relevant FDA regulatory structures

  • Technical background in chemistry, biology, or a related life sciences discipline

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet litigation deadlines
