Job OverviewAn established law firm specializing in transportation and logistics defense is seeking an Associate Attorney to join its civil defense litigation team. The ideal candidate will have experience in personal injury defense litigation, preferably within the transportation/trucking industry, and will be responsible for managing cases in state and federal courts. The role offers flexibility with a hybrid remote work setup, requiring travel for in-person hearings and other proceedings as needed. This position provides a competitive salary along with a comprehensive benefits package.Duties and ResponsibilitiesLitigation ManagementHandle personal injury defense cases in both state and federal courts.Represent clients in hearings, depositions, mediations, and trials, ensuring a thorough understanding of the case at hand.Draft and respond to written discovery requests, motions, and other litigation-related documents.Case Preparation and StrategyConduct witness interviews and take/defend discovery depositions.Prepare cases for trial, ensuring that all necessary documentation and strategies are in place.Collaborate with senior attorneys to develop case strategies and provide recommendations for defense.Client CommunicationCommunicate effectively with clients, providing updates on case status and offering legal advice.Represent clients' interests through negotiation and settlement discussions when appropriate.Business TravelTravel as necessary for hearings, depositions, mediations, and trials across Indiana.RequirementsExperienceMinimum of 3 years of experience in insurance defense, with preference given to candidates with experience in transportation/trucking defense.Proven ability to handle personal injury defense litigation in both state and federal courts.LicensingActive Indiana Bar License is required.Additional licensure in Kentucky is a plus, but not mandatory.SkillsStrong research, writing, and analytical skills.Proficient in drafting legal documents, including motions, memoranda, and discovery responses.Ability to take and defend depositions and conduct interviews.Excellent case preparation and trial readiness.Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.EducationJuris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.CertificationsIndiana Bar License (required).Additional Kentucky Bar License (preferred, but not required).Benefits401(k) plan with matching contributions.Disability insurance.Professional development assistance and support for continuing education.
