Job Overview:
A reputable, multi-state law firm with a presence in Montana is seeking a highly experienced and driven Family Law Attorney to join its growing practice in Whitefish, MT. This role is ideal for a self-directed professional with a strong background in family law litigation and mediation who also enjoys business development and leadership opportunities. The position offers the autonomy to manage your practice while receiving substantial support through operational infrastructure, lead generation, and marketing efforts.

Location:

  • Whitefish, Montana

Duties:

  • Manage a caseload of complex family law matters from intake to resolution

  • Represent clients in mediation, hearings, and trials

  • Conduct legal research, draft legal memoranda, pleadings, and correspondence

  • Perform due diligence and discovery tasks, including review of electronically stored information

  • Develop and execute case strategies and resolutions

  • Maintain regular communication with clients and ensure a high level of service

  • Market legal services to potential clients and contribute to brand development

  • Provide mentorship to junior attorneys and participate in firm leadership initiatives

  • Contribute to the firm’s reputation through thought leadership (blogs, events, professional groups)

  • Track billable hours (target: 1500 billed annually with 1400 collected)

  • Utilize support staff effectively and ensure accurate and timely updates to case management systems

  • Actively participate in business development and community engagement activities

  • Approve invoices in a timely manner and ensure financial accuracy

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a practicing family law attorney

  • Demonstrated experience with mediation and trial litigation

  • Proven ability to manage and grow a book of business

  • Willingness to engage in leadership, mentoring, and community-based outreach

  • Strong commitment to client advocacy and firm goals

  • Comfortable working independently in a goal-oriented environment

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Active license to practice law in Montana (or eligibility for reciprocal admission)

Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong legal research, analysis, and drafting skills

  • Interpersonal and client relationship-building abilities
