A law firm seeks a dynamic Partner-Level Patent Attorney in Detroit, MI, to join its expanding patent group. The ideal candidate will possess a strong track record in patent prosecution, counseling, and strategic portfolio management, along with a portable book of business. This role offers the opportunity to collaborate with innovative clients across various industries and contribute to the growth of the firm's IP practice.

Duties

  • Manage patent prosecution, IP strategy, and portfolio development for clients in sectors such as automotive, healthcare, and manufacturing.
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships while expanding your book of business.
  • Collaborate with firm leadership to develop the patent practice and mentor junior attorneys.
  • Provide IP counseling and advise on patentability, freedom-to-operate, and other patent-related issues.
  • Participate in business development to grow the firm's client base and market presence.
  • Work with other attorneys to offer integrated legal solutions for clients with multidisciplinary needs.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree and admission to the state bar.
  • Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • 6-10 years of experience in patent law, focusing on prosecution and strategic IP counseling.
  • A portable book of business with proven client attraction and retention ability.
  • Experience with clients in technology, life sciences, manufacturing, automotive, or healthcare industries.
  • Strong entrepreneurial mindset and desire to grow a patent practice.
  • Excellent communication skills to explain complex legal and technical concepts.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree
