Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Patent Agent with a minimum of 3 years of post-AIA patent prosecution experience to join its Chemical Patent Prosecution Practice Group in Alexandria, VA. This hybrid role requires an in-office presence three days per week. An advanced degree in organic chemistry is essential, and industrial experience is advantageous.

Duties

  • Analyze and prepare replies to office actions.
  • Conduct invention and disclosure meetings with clients.
  • Prepare and prosecute new patent applications.
  • Counsel clients on patent-related matters and portfolio analysis.
  • Assist with agreements and related transactions.
  • Participate in appeals and potentially train junior professionals.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of post-AIA patent prosecution experience.
  • Superior technical knowledge, writing, and communication skills.
  • Fluency in a foreign language is a plus; Japanese or Korean preferred.
  • Registration to practice before the USPTO and in good standing.

Education

  • Advanced degree (Master's or Doctorate) in organic chemistry.

Certifications

  • Registered to practice before the USPTO.
