Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Lateral Trademark Associate in Chicago, Illinois. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in trademark law and be ready to take on significant client responsibilities. Duties

• Train and supervise junior associates.
• Conduct trademark clearance searches and opinions.
• Prepare and prosecute trademark registration applications.
• Counsel clients on building and enforcing trademark portfolios.
• Manage trademark portfolios domestically and internationally.
• Handle disputes related to advertising, contests, and promotions.
• Provide copyright counseling and protection.
• Prepare and manage anti-counterfeiting litigation.
• Advise on domain name disputes.
• Engage in business development opportunities.

Requirements

• 5 years of trademark-focused legal experience.
• License to practice law in Illinois or eligibility to sit for the Illinois bar exam.
• Strong academic credentials.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience in trademark prosecution and infringement litigation.
• Experience with domain name disputes and advertising law.

Education

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree.

Certifications

• Licensed to practice law in Illinois or another state.

Skills

• Strong legal reasoning and problem-solving skills.
• Organizational and communication skills.
• Experience with USPTO trademark examination is a plus.
