Job Title: Trial Attorney

Job Overview:
A downtown Austin-based law firm is actively seeking a litigation attorney with substantial trial experience to join a focused practice handling state-level tax disputes. This role offers the opportunity to take on challenging work across all phases of litigation and appeals within a specialized area of tax controversy. Ideal for attorneys looking to deepen their litigation skills in a niche regulatory setting, this position involves hands-on exposure to trial, appellate work, and the chance to independently manage appeals with expert mentorship.

Duties:

  • Conduct legal research and write supporting memoranda, motions, and briefs

  • Manage discovery, including depositions and document requests

  • Participate in all stages of litigation, including pre-trial, trial, and post-trial procedures

  • Handle or assist with appellate filings and oral arguments

  • Interact with state agencies and administrative law forums in the tax context

  • Collaborate with experienced attorneys on case strategy and development

  • Maintain case files and ensure timely progress on all matters

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years of trial experience in any substantive area

  • Strong writing and oral advocacy skills

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple deadlines and caseloads

  • Keen attention to detail with a proactive and solution-oriented mindset

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Admitted to practice and in good standing with the Texas Bar

Skills:

  • Familiarity with state administrative procedures or regulatory litigation preferred

  • Knowledge or background in tax or accounting is advantageous

  • Strong interpersonal communication and client-facing capabilities

  • Ability to distill complex legal concepts into clear, persuasive arguments
