A law firm in Grand Rapids, MI is seeking an experienced Labor and Employment Attorney with over 10 years of experience. The role involves performing the general duties of a seasoned labor and employment attorney, including handling employment litigation, advising clients on labor/employment matters, and representing clients in legal issues concerning employees. Strong communication skills, litigation expertise, and the ability to handle client matters independently are essential for this position.

 

Duties:

  • Independently or largely independently handle employment litigation cases and other labor/employment matters.
  • Prepare legal briefs, pleadings, and trial materials.
  • Handle various aspects of employment-related litigation, such as motion hearings, mediations, depositions, and trials.
  • Determine litigation strategy in collaboration with clients.
  • Respond to EEOC and MDCR charges effectively.
  • Assist or handle pretrial, trial, and post-trial proceedings.
  • Demonstrate some level of portable business.

 

Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited law school.
  • Admitted to the Michigan State Bar, or eligible for prompt admission.
  • 10+ years of experience in employment-related litigation and client counseling.
  • Experience in traditional labor matters is advantageous.

 

Education:

Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

 

Certifications:

Admission to the Michigan State Bar, or eligibility for prompt admission.

 

Skills:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong litigation and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to handle client matters independently or with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency in legal research and analysis.
  • Experience with traditional labor matters is a plus.
