Job Overview

A law firm seeks a mid-level associate with 3-5 years of relevant experience to join its Nonprofit and Tax-Exempt Organizations Team in Boston, MA. The successful candidate will engage with a diverse client base, advising on legal and tax matters, and supporting corporate transactions.

Duties

  • Advise nonprofit organizations on legal and tax matters, including formation and tax compliance.
  • Conduct legal research and analysis of laws impacting nonprofit organizations.
  • Support clients with endowments and restricted gifts, including policy establishment and investment management.
  • Provide support for corporate transactions, including mergers and joint ventures.
  • Draft and review legal documents such as contracts and grant agreements.
  • Manage client relationships and communicate effectively with clients.
  • Engage in charitable gift planning and estate planning discussions.
  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant laws and regulations.

Requirements

  • Strong writing skills and attention to detail.
  • Substantial tax experience with a focus on exempt organizations.
  • Strong academic background and organizational skills.
  • Preference for candidates with an LL.M. in Tax and experience with nonprofit corporate governance.
  • Experience with supporting organizations and donor advised funds is a plus.
  • Experience with healthcare transactions is advantageous.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree required.

Certifications

  • Licensed or eligible to become licensed to practice law in the state of practice.

Skills

  • Excellent client management and communication skills.
  • Ability to engage in public speaking and business development.
