Civil Defense Litigation Associate Attorney

Job Overview:
A well-regarded law firm based in Chicago, IL, is partnering with a recruiting agency to identify a driven Associate Attorney with 1 to 5 years of relevant litigation experience. This opportunity involves hands-on responsibility across all stages of civil defense litigation, offering strong mentorship and exposure to courtroom practice.

Duties:

  • Prepare and review legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and discovery responses

  • Conduct in-depth legal research and draft supporting memoranda

  • Manage assigned litigation matters, including timelines, filings, and court requirements

  • Represent clients at court appearances, hearings, and case management conferences

  • Assist in or conduct witness and expert depositions

  • Collaborate with partners and senior attorneys on litigation strategies

Requirements:

  • Active license to practice law in the state of Illinois

  • 1 to 5 years of experience in civil litigation, preferably with a defense focus

  • Proven ability to handle discovery, motion practice, and courtroom appearances

  • Strong case management skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school

Certifications:

  • Admission to the Illinois State Bar

Skills:

  • Exceptional legal writing and analytical skills

  • Confident oral advocacy and interpersonal communication

  • Familiarity with case law research tools and litigation software

  • Professionalism and reliability under deadlines
