Job Overview

A Grand Rapids, MI, law firm seeks an experienced and motivated Associate Attorney to join their team. The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of meaningful litigation experience, with a strong background in formulating and implementing litigation strategies, taking and defending depositions, and drafting and arguing substantive motions. Familiarity with appellate practice is a plus.

Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Formulate and implement litigation strategies for a variety of cases.
  • Take and defend depositions.
  • Draft and argue substantive motions.
  • Conduct legal research and prepare legal memoranda.
  • Assist in trial preparation, including witness preparation and drafting trial briefs.
  • Represent clients in court and administrative hearings.
  • Manage case files and ensure compliance with deadlines.
  • Provide legal advice and counsel to clients.
  • Collaborate with senior attorneys and paralegals to ensure high-quality legal services.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of developments in relevant areas of law.

Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of meaningful litigation experience.
  • Proven track record in formulating and implementing litigation strategies.
  • Experience in taking and defending depositions.
  • Strong drafting and arguing skills for substantive motions.
  • Familiarity with appellate practice is a plus.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases and work under pressure.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the State Bar of Michigan, in good standing.

  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Effective time management and ability to meet deadlines.
  • High level of professionalism and ethical standards.
