Job Overview

A law firm seeks an Associate Attorney specializing in Zoning and Land Use in Phoenix, AZ. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in guiding development projects through the entitlement process, from legal strategy to public hearings. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with clients, consultants, municipal staff, and community members, with support from experienced planners and the managing attorney.

Duties

  • Represent land developers and property owners in land development and entitlement processes.
  • Draft zoning applications, justification narratives, and contracts.
  • Engage with municipal staff, development consultants, and elected officials.
  • Conduct legal research on zoning ordinances, municipal codes, and relevant case law.
  • Lead development teams, including planners, engineers, and architects.
  • Develop strategic legal solutions for entitlement challenges.
  • Prepare and present materials for public hearings and stakeholder outreach.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in zoning and land use law, preferably in Arizona.
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) and license to practice in Arizona (or ability to waive in promptly).
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Experience presenting land use cases before public bodies.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with clients and stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple matters and meet deadlines.
  • Experience coordinating with technical consultants.
