Job Overview

A law firm seeks a mid-level associate with 3-5 years of experience to join its Nonprofit and Tax-Exempt Organizations team in Dallas, TX. The successful candidate will provide legal and tax advice to nonprofit organizations, engage in client management, and support corporate transactions.

Duties

  • Advise nonprofit organizations on legal and tax matters, including formation and compliance.
  • Conduct legal research and analysis of laws impacting nonprofit organizations.
  • Support clients with endowments and restricted gifts, including policy establishment and investment management.
  • Assist in corporate transactions, providing tax analysis and advice.
  • Draft and review legal documents such as contracts and grant agreements.
  • Manage client relationships and expectations under senior attorney supervision.
  • Engage in charitable gift planning and estate planning discussions with clients.
  • Stay informed on changes in laws and regulations relevant to the nonprofit sector.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of relevant legal experience.
  • Strong writing skills and attention to detail.
  • Substantial tax experience with a focus on exempt organizations.
  • Preference for candidates with an LL.M. in Tax and experience with nonprofit corporate governance.
  • Experience with supporting organizations, social welfare organizations, and donor-advised funds is preferred.
  • Experience with healthcare transactions is a plus.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree required.

Certifications

  • Licensed or eligible to become licensed to practice law in the state of practice.

Skills

  • Strong client management and communication skills.
  • High level of organization and ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Ability to engage in public speaking and business development activities.
