The role provides hands-on experience with Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 cases, including client counseling, court appearances, and case management.

Duties

  • Assist in representing individual and business clients in Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy filings.
  • Conduct initial client consultations and gather necessary documentation.
  • Draft and file bankruptcy petitions, schedules, and related pleadings.
  • Appear in court for hearings, meetings of creditors, and trustee meetings.
  • Communicate with clients throughout the case lifecycle to provide guidance and updates.
  • Coordinate with courts, trustees, and opposing counsel as needed.
  • Maintain accurate case files and meet deadlines for filings and court requirements.

Requirements

  • 1 year of experience practicing bankruptcy law.
  • Familiarity with the U.S. Bankruptcy Code and local court procedures.
  • Demonstrated interest in debtor-side representation.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle a high-volume caseload under supervision.
  • Licensed to practice law in Ohio or eligible for immediate admission.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active license to practice law in the state of Ohio.
  • Admission to federal bankruptcy court (preferred or must be obtained shortly after hire).

Skills

  • Knowledge of Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy processes.
  • Strong legal research and writing abilities.
  • Client-focused communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a legal team.
