A law firm in South Holland is seeking a skilled Real Estate Tax Attorney to join their team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for assisting in the administration of property tax appeals, analyzing properties, drafting briefs, and supporting evidence for various real estate projects. The role involves communication with clients and county representatives, managing court filings, and maintaining a docket. The Real Estate Tax Attorney must possess professionalism, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work independently. The candidate should be licensed in Illinois, have at least 2 years of relevant experience, and be well-versed in property tax appeal processes.

 

Duties:

  • Assist in the administration of property tax appeals at three administrative levels and in the Circuit Courts.
  • Analyze properties, review, and draft briefs, and prepare supporting evidence for various real estate projects.
  • Understand and interpret assessment records, assessment histories, and other relevant documentation.
  • Monitor and assist with filings for tax objection cases in the Circuit Court of Cook County.
  • Communicate with clients through written and verbal means, drafting correspondence summarizing appeal results and recommendations.
  • Communicate with county representatives regarding hearings, scheduling issues, settlements, and other related matters.
  • Maintain a docket and assist in obtaining tax incentives.
  • Support the Real Estate Department with tax proration issues and miscellaneous projects.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.
  • Use tact and diplomacy when dealing with others.
  • Compose documents in the appropriate business style with correct grammar and spelling.
  • Participate in Continuing Legal Education training.
  • Perform any other duties as necessary or required.

 

Requirements:

  • Licensed in Illinois.
  • 2+ years of experience researching and filing property tax appeals with the Cook/Collar County Assessor Offices, the Cook County Board of Review, and the Illinois Property Tax Appeal Board.
  • Experience using an Access database is preferred.

 

Education:

Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

  • Ability to work independently and prioritize workload.
  • Proficiency in using an Access database is preferred.
