Job Overview

A prominent business law firm is seeking an experienced Partner-level Attorney to join its High Net Worth Practice Group. This opportunity is ideal for a senior attorney with a strong background in estate planning, trust administration, and corporate governance, who values delivering exceptional legal service and maintaining long-standing client relationships. The role involves both hands-on legal work and leadership, including mentoring junior attorneys and overseeing team contributions across complex matters.

Location

  • Grand Rapids, Michigan

Duties

  • Draft estate planning documents including:

    • Revocable and irrevocable trusts

    • Wills and powers of attorney

    • GST/dynasty trusts, GRATs, QPRTs, and prenuptial agreements

  • Independently administer complex trusts and estates

  • Conduct legal research and advise clients on estate, gift, and income tax issues

  • Advise clients on corporate law matters, including:

    • Business formation

    • Governance structures

    • Operating and buy-sell agreements

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with high-net-worth clients and their professional advisors

  • Train, mentor, and provide guidance to associates and team members

  • Delegate tasks to and supervise work by paralegals, associates, and legal secretaries

  • Lead and manage multiple large-scale legal projects with high client interaction

  • Prioritize tasks and manage deadlines efficiently across a dynamic workload

Requirements

  • Legal experience in estate planning, trust administration, and/or corporate governance

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with high-level clients and complex matters

  • Proven leadership in supervising legal teams and managing client relationships

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited U.S. law school

Certifications

  • Active license to practice law in the state of Michigan (required)

Skills

  • Expertise in estate and tax planning strategies for high-net-worth individuals

  • Strong drafting, analytical, and research skills

  • Effective communicator with clients, colleagues, and external advisors

  • Ability to manage multiple high-stakes projects simultaneously
