A law firm seeks a dedicated Associate Attorney to join its Rapid City, SD office through our recruiting services. In this role, you will support clients in navigating elder law and estate planning matters, collaborating with senior attorneys to deliver personalized, high-quality legal guidance. Duties

  • Draft and review comprehensive estate planning instruments, such as wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and healthcare directives

  • Conduct in-depth legal research on elder law, Medicaid planning, asset protection, and related issues to inform case strategy

  • Participate in client consultations and meetings, providing compassionate guidance and clear explanations of legal options

  • Manage and organize client files, ensuring meticulous record-keeping and timely follow-up on deadlines

  • Collaborate with senior attorneys on complex matters, assisting with case analysis, strategy sessions, and document preparation

  • Maintain open communication with clients to keep them informed of case status, answer questions, and address concerns

  • Uphold ethical standards in all legal activities, ensuring confidentiality and professionalism

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school

  • Admission to the South Dakota State Bar (or eligibility to waive in or sit for the bar exam)

  • Demonstrated analytical and legal research capabilities, with experience in statutory and regulatory interpretation

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex legal concepts in plain language

  • The capacity to work both independently on assigned tasks and collaboratively within a team environment

  • Strong client-service orientation, with empathy for the unique needs of seniors and families

  • Proactive attitude, creative problem-solving skills, and a commitment to delivering high-caliber results

  • Attentive to detail and organized in managing multiple files and deadlines

Education

  • J.D. from an accredited law school

  • Evidence of strong academic performance (e.g., law review, moot court, relevant coursework) preferred

Certifications

  • Active membership in the South Dakota State Bar (required)

  • Eligibility or admission to the Oregon State Bar (advantageous but not mandatory)
