Criminal Defense Attorney

Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Criminal Defense Attorney in St. Louis, MO. The successful candidate will represent individuals in criminal cases, manage court proceedings, and engage with clients. This role is open to both recent law school graduates and experienced attorneys with a background in criminal law.

Duties

• Conduct evidentiary hearings, depositions, and trials.
• Meet with clients to discuss discovery and negotiate pleas.
• Communicate with prosecutors, judges, and court representatives.
• Participate in docket calls in state and municipal courts.
• Perform legal investigations and prepare documents.
• Handle consultations with leads and assist in signing them up.
• Attend legal proceedings, carry out legal analysis, and provide legal advice.
• Collaborate with clients and colleagues to resolve cases.
• Analyze disputes, counsel clients, and negotiate on their behalf.
• Manage case files and ensure updates are accessible to the team.

Requirements

• Possess a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
• Be a licensed attorney in the state of Missouri.
• Strong typing and technology skills.
• Proficient in Word, Excel, database software, and Outlook.
• Excellent organizational and follow-up skills.
• Effective communicator in both oral and written form.
• Great time management and problem-solving capabilities.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Professional demeanor and excellent people skills.
• Exercise flexibility, initiative, good judgment, and discretion.
• Illinois law license preferred but not necessary.
• Satisfactory results in relevant assessments.
• Self-reliant with a growth mindset and open to technology.

Education

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

• Licensed attorney in the state of Missouri.
