Job Overview

A reputable law firm in Walnut Creek, CA is seeking a skilled and motivated Family Law Associate Attorney. This hybrid role offers an excellent opportunity to manage complex family law matters, including high-asset property division and high-conflict custody disputes. The ideal candidate will have at least two years of family law litigation experience, strong negotiation skills, and a desire to grow within a dynamic legal team. This position allows for a flexible remote schedule combined with courtroom presence and team collaboration.

Duties

  • Conduct legal research and in-depth case analysis

  • Draft pleadings, motions, declarations, and discovery requests/responses

  • Negotiate settlements with opposing counsel on behalf of clients

  • Represent clients in court proceedings, including depositions, hearings, and trials

  • Advise clients on legal rights and strategies, including custody, support, and property division

  • Manage own caseload and maintain detailed and organized case records

  • Handle complex matters such as high-asset division and contentious custody issues with autonomy

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in family law litigation or a closely related legal area

  • Ability to manage multiple family law cases simultaneously

  • Strong client communication and interpersonal skills

  • Capacity to work independently while meeting case deadlines

  • Willingness to meet a minimum billable requirement of 1300 hours per year

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school

Certifications

  • Active license to practice law in the state of California (required)

Skills

  • Proficient in California family law, including child custody, spousal support, and asset division

  • Excellent legal writing, research, and courtroom advocacy skills

  • Strong organizational and case management abilities

  • Negotiation and conflict resolution skills
