Job Overview

A law firm seeks an experienced tax attorney with over 10 years of experience to join their Corporate Practice Group in advising clients on diverse federal and state tax matters. This position is based in [City/State].

Duties

  • Provide strategic tax planning and advisory services to corporate and individual clients.
  • Structure and analyze tax implications for mergers, acquisitions, reorganizations, and other transactions.
  • Advise on federal and state compliance and planning matters, including for tax-exempt organizations.
  • Represent clients in tax disputes, audits, and negotiations with tax authorities.
  • Assist CPAs in reviewing income, gift, and estate tax returns.
  • Advise on complex 1031 exchanges.
  • Draft and review legal documents, memoranda, and opinions related to tax matters.
  • Collaborate with other attorneys and advisors on complex transactions.
  • Mentor junior attorneys and contribute to the development of the firm's tax practice.

Requirements

  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • LL.M. in Taxation or CPA (Tax).
  • Active license to practice law.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in tax law at a law firm, accounting firm, or government agency.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state tax laws.
  • Experience with tax-exempt organizations is preferred.
  • Experience with transactional tax planning and tax controversy matters.
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Strong client-management and communication abilities.

Education

  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • LL.M. in Taxation or CPA (Tax).

Certifications

  • Active license to practice law.
