Job Overview

A highly regarded law firm is seeking a full-time Associate Attorney to join its Litigation Group in Chicago, Illinois. This hybrid role is focused on representing condominium, homeowner, and other common-interest community associations. The position offers a unique opportunity to work on a variety of complex legal matters involving governance disputes, professional liability, and community association law, while engaging directly with sophisticated clients and leadership teams.

Duties

  • Represent and advise directors and officers of not-for-profit corporations, including condominium and homeowner associations.

  • Defend claims involving professional negligence, breach of fiduciary duty, discrimination, harassment, contract disputes, and general torts.

  • Negotiate resolutions for disputes between homeowners and boards of directors.

  • Interpret and advise on community association governing documents (e.g., Declarations, Bylaws, Rules, and Regulations).

  • Apply knowledge of applicable Illinois statutes related to community associations.

  • Handle a diverse caseload involving both litigation and advisory matters.

  • Maintain direct communication with clients, board members, and legal colleagues.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of experience representing condominium and homeowner associations.

  • Demonstrated experience with governance issues, community association law, and liability defense.

  • Strong negotiation and dispute resolution skills.

  • Familiarity with Illinois laws governing common-interest communities.

  • Ability to manage complex legal matters with minimal supervision.

  • Collaborative mindset in a team-oriented legal environment.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active license to practice law in the State of Illinois.

Skills

  • Legal analysis and interpretation of community association documents

  • Litigation strategy and defense preparation

  • Contract and tort law proficiency

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to work closely with clients and develop trust-based relationships
