Job Overview:
A forward-thinking intellectual property law firm is seeking a skilled and motivated Patent Agent with a minimum of two years of patent prosecution experience to join its growing team. This position offers a high level of autonomy, direct client interaction, and opportunities for professional development. The ideal candidate will have a background in electrical engineering, computer science, or related technical disciplines, and a strong interest in cutting-edge technology sectors such as AR/VR and machine learning. Remote work is fully supported, with occasional visits to the firm's offices in Los Angeles or Northern Virginia.

Location:

  • Los Angeles, CA

Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications across a range of technologies

  • Lead and participate in invention disclosure meetings with clients

  • Communicate directly with clients to incorporate feedback during drafting and prosecution

  • Conduct Examiner interviews and draft responses to office actions

  • Prepare and submit appeal briefs and present oral arguments before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB)

  • Manage prosecution responsibilities independently, with mentorship support as needed

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in U.S. patent prosecution

  • Strong understanding of USPTO procedures and patent law

  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned matters

  • Willingness to engage directly with clients and examiners

Education:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field

  • Other degrees such as Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or Software Engineering will also be considered

Certifications:

  • Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)

Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

  • High attention to detail in drafting and prosecuting patents

  • Client-focused mindset with the ability to manage feedback constructively

  • Familiarity with cutting-edge technologies including AR/VR and machine learning
