Job Overview

A law firm seeks an experienced Employee Benefits Attorney specializing in multiemployer plans and withdrawal liability in Los Angeles, CA. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of ERISA and related laws, focusing on fund contribution audits, withdrawal liability, and related arbitration and litigation. Transactional experience is a plus.

Duties

  • Advise employers on compliance with ERISA, the Internal Revenue Code, DOL, PBGC, and IRS regulations.
  • Counsel employers on withdrawal liability assessments, collections, funding issues, mergers, and restructuring.
  • Advise on plan documents, trust agreements, collection policies, and settlement agreements.
  • Represent employers in arbitrations, mediations, and litigation involving withdrawal liability and fiduciary matters.
  • Monitor regulatory and case law developments impacting multiemployer plans and advise on risk mitigation strategies.

Requirements

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and admission to practice in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • 3-5+ years of relevant ERISA/employee benefits experience, with an emphasis on multiemployer benefit funds and withdrawal liability.
  • Strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
  • Ability to manage complex projects independently and as part of a team.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree

Certifications

  • Admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
