Job Overview: A prominent law firm is currently seeking a highly motivated Patent Associate with a strong background in the life sciences to join its Patents and Innovations (Counseling and Prosecution) practice. The ideal candidate will have 1–4 years of law firm experience in patent prosecution, be a registered patent practitioner, and possess a technical background in life sciences or related disciplines. This position offers the opportunity to work with cutting-edge clients and complex technologies in a collaborative, intellectually engaging environment.
Location:
Boulder, CO
Duties:
Prepare and prosecute patent applications for life sciences clients
Conduct patentability, freedom-to-operate, and validity analyses
Provide strategic counseling on patent portfolio development
Assist with IP due diligence related to transactions or litigation
Collaborate closely with scientists, inventors, and internal legal teams
Draft legal opinions regarding patent validity and infringement
Requirements:
1–4 years of experience in patent prosecution at a law firm
Experience in biotech or pharmaceutical patent matters
Ability to handle a variety of life sciences technologies
Strong client service orientation and attention to detail
Excellent research and legal writing skills
Education:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school
Advanced degree (M.S., Ph.D., or equivalent) required in one or more of the following:
Cell or Molecular Biology
Immunology
Biochemistry
Bioinformatics
Bioengineering
Organic or Medicinal Chemistry
Cancer Biology
Pharmacology
Biophysics
Digital Health
Certifications:
Must be a member in good standing of at least one state bar
Registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
Skills:
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
Excellent analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills
High level of technical proficiency in life sciences disciplines
Collaborative mindset with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
