A law firm seeks a seasoned litigator to join its Metairie, LA, office. This role focuses on automobile and general casualty defense, handling a diverse docket of civil disputes. The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of relevant experience and possess a strong academic pedigree, exceptional legal research and writing abilities, and proficiency with case-management tools.

Duties

  • Manage all phases of case files, from intake through resolution

  • Draft pleadings, motions, discovery requests, and legal memoranda

  • Conduct thorough legal research and prepare persuasive written analyses

  • Participate in and lead depositions of fact witnesses and expert witnesses

  • Appear in state and federal courts to argue motions and advocate on behalf of clients

  • Assist senior counsel at trial, including preparing exhibits, witness outlines, and jury instructions

  • Track billable hours daily and maintain accurate time records

  • Coordinate with internal support staff and paralegals to ensure timely document production and case updates

  • Mentor junior attorneys and oversee the delegation of tasks to maintain workflow efficiency

Requirements

  • Active license to practice law in Louisiana (must be in good standing)

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience defending automobile and general casualty cases

  • Proven ability to manage heavy litigation caseloads and complex case strategies

  • Demonstrated expertise in drafting and arguing motions, handling discovery, and conducting depositions

  • Excellent command of Microsoft Office 365 and familiarity with electronic case-management platforms

  • Outstanding legal research and writing skills, supported by a strong academic background

  • Ability to travel as needed for depositions and court appearances

  • Exceptional organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications

  • Licensed member of the Louisiana State Bar Association

  • Any additional certifications (e.g., trial advocacy, deposition skills) are a plus

  • Advanced legal research (LexisNexis, Westlaw) and analytical abilities

  • Superior written and oral advocacy, including motion drafting and courtroom presentations
