Job Overview

A highly respected law firm is seeking a Principal Attorney with significant expertise in international trade law. This is a strategic opportunity for a seasoned professional to lead complex international matters, including customs compliance, tariff classifications, and trade disputes, while collaborating with a talented team across multiple office locations. A portable book of business is required.

Location

Duties

  • Advise clients on customs and import control matters, including tariff classification, valuation, transfer pricing, and audits

  • Counsel clients on forced labor compliance and enforcement of antidumping and countervailing duty orders

  • Represent clients in dealings with U.S. Customs and Border Protection and other regulatory agencies

  • Draft legal opinions, prepare filings, and develop compliance strategies for international trade issues

  • Manage multiple, complex matters while maintaining client relationships

  • Stay current with developments in U.S. and international trade law and regulations

  • Collaborate with attorneys across practice groups for multidisciplinary client matters

  • Support business development initiatives, including client outreach and industry presentations

Requirements

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in international trade law, focusing on customs compliance, trade remedies, and regulatory matters

  • Proven ability to independently manage complex client matters

  • Strong commitment to client service excellence

  • Enthusiasm for working both independently and within a diverse, collaborative environment

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications

  • Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction

Skills

  • Exceptional legal research, drafting, and analytical skills

  • Deep knowledge of customs laws, international trade agreements, and regulatory frameworks

  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure with competing deadlines

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills for client advising and negotiations

  • Outstanding attention to detail and organizational abilities
