Job Overview

A law firm seeks an Associate Attorney to join their team in Taylor, MI. The successful candidate will manage a diverse caseload in areas such as divorce, child custody, probate, estate planning, and bankruptcy. This role requires strong communication, legal research, and litigation skills, with a focus on assisting individuals and families through complex legal matters.

Duties

  • Represent clients in court hearings, mediations, and negotiations.
  • Draft pleadings, motions, discovery requests/responses, and legal correspondence.
  • Conduct client consultations and maintain ongoing client communication.
  • Prepare estate planning documents including wills, trusts, and powers of attorney.
  • Manage probate and trust administration matters from start to finish.
  • Handle Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy filings and hearings.
  • Maintain accurate case records and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Collaborate with legal staff and partners to achieve best outcomes for clients.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Active license to practice law in the State of Michigan (required).
  • 0-3+ years of experience in one or more of the relevant practice areas.
  • Strong legal writing, research, and analytical skills.
  • Professional demeanor and strong interpersonal communication.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases efficiently and effectively.
  • Willingness to work in-office full time.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Michigan family court, probate court, or bankruptcy court.
  • Familiarity with Clio, MyCase, or similar case management software.
  • Spanish language proficiency (a plus, but not required).

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active license to practice law in the State of Michigan.
