Job Overview

A law firm seeks an Energy and Natural Resources Associate in San Francisco, California. The ideal candidate will have over two years of regulatory law experience, preferably in energy, and must be licensed to practice in California. Strong writing and research skills, along with excellent academic credentials, are essential. A background in civil litigation or regulated industries is advantageous.

Duties

  • Conduct legal research and analysis related to energy and natural resources law and policy.
  • Represent clients in administrative proceedings and litigation.
  • Provide legal advice on electricity, natural gas, renewable energy, oil and gas, mining, and water rights.
  • Draft and negotiate contracts, including leases and joint venture agreements.
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to provide comprehensive legal advice.
  • Implement best practices under the guidance of senior attorneys.
  • Analyze and draft legal memoranda assessing legal risks and opportunities.
  • Participate in designing legal strategies for proposed legislation.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the bar in California.
  • 3+ years of experience in administrative litigation or regulated industries.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws related to energy and natural resources.
  • Strong legal research and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with administrative hearings.
  • Proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Teams.
  • Experience with agencies like the California Public Utilities Commission.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and prioritize effectively.

Education

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Admission to the California State Bar.

  • Ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
