Job Overview:

The Civil Appellate Attorney will be responsible for providing comprehensive legal services, including legal research, drafting motions, pleadings, and briefs. They will advocate for clients at oral arguments in appellate courts and may engage in prospecting for new clients through various marketing activities. The attorney will collaborate with firm staff to ensure efficient and prompt delivery of client work product.

Duties:

  • Perform legal research to support case strategies and arguments.
  • Draft motions, pleadings, and briefs for appellate proceedings.
  • Represent clients at oral arguments in appellate courts.
  • Engage in prospecting for new clients through marketing, networking, and speaking engagements.
  • Conduct regular file reviews and other procedural duties as required by firm policy.
  • Proactively set case strategy and take initiative to benefit clients.
  • Work in cooperation with firm staff to deliver client work products efficiently and cost-effectively.

Requirements:

  • Law degree from an accredited law school.
  • Licensed or in the process of obtaining a license to practice law in Michigan.
  • Editor/Author experience in Law Review preferred.
  • 5-10 years of experience in a law firm setting.
  • Exceptional legal writing and argumentation skills.
  • Excellent speaking skills and confidence in oral arguments.
  • Willingness to continue learning and growing in firm practice areas.
  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn Microsoft Word and Microsoft Office Suite.

Education and Certifications:

  • Law degree from an accredited law school.
  • Licensed or in the process of obtaining a license to practice law in Michigan.
