Job Overview

A law firm seeks an Associate Attorney in Los Angeles, CA, to focus on discovery and law-and-motion practice in employment arbitration matters. This role involves managing a portfolio of arbitration cases, contributing to case strategy, and working closely with senior arbitration counsel and litigation teams.

Duties

  • Support all phases of employment arbitration, including preliminary hearings and evidentiary hearing preparation.
  • Prepare hearing materials, such as exhibit lists and arbitration briefs.
  • Develop strategy-driven approaches to arbitration, including limited discovery.
  • Participate in arbitration proceedings and contribute to real-time case analysis.
  • Draft and respond to written discovery with an emphasis on efficiency.
  • Prepare and oppose discovery-related motions and assist with targeted motion practice.
  • Conduct legal research and draft arbitration-focused briefs.
  • Assist with deposition preparation and take and defend depositions with guidance.
  • Appear in depositions, mediations, and arbitration hearings.
  • Develop case strategy and maintain regular client communication.
  • Draft substantive legal documents and ensure accuracy and strategic alignment.
  • Coordinate with paralegals and support staff for file management and deadline compliance.
  • Participate in firm-wide initiatives and special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in the California State Bar.
  • 2 - 4 years of relevant experience in a law firm.
  • Strong drafting, analytical, and oral advocacy skills.
  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, PDF software, and legal research platforms.

Education

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active membership in the California State Bar.

Skills

  • Experience in employment law, particularly wage and hour claims.
  • Familiarity with case management systems and document management tools.
  • Experience with or interest in employment arbitration, including AAA and JAMS forums.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
