Job Overview:
A respected law firm specializing in Intellectual Property and Commercial Law is seeking a skilled Intellectual Property Attorney to join its San Juan, Puerto Rico office. The role involves handling trademark prosecution and litigation, drafting a variety of IP-related legal documents, and supporting senior attorneys in managing case workflows. This opportunity is presented by a legal recruiting agency on behalf of the hiring law firm.

Location:

  • San Juan, Puerto Rico

Duties:

  • Draft IP-related documents, including forms, client communications, and legal notices

  • Prepare legal briefs, motions, memorandums, and complaints

  • Manage all stages of case development, including client intake, legal research, discovery, and resolution

  • Assist senior attorneys with research, drafting, and coordination of case-related tasks

  • Handle trademark prosecution through the USPTO and PRTO

  • Manage copyright prosecution via the U.S. Copyright Office

  • Conduct legal research and draft internal client communications

  • Perform docketing responsibilities (FlexTrac® CTS experience preferred)

  • Coordinate meetings, events, and legal conferences

  • Record time and expenses accurately for billing

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree

  • Active license to practice law in Puerto Rico

  • Bilingual fluency in Spanish and English (written and verbal)

  • Strong computer and internet research skills

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities under deadlines

  • Experience with legal research tools such as WestLaw Precision

  • Prior experience in Intellectual Property law or a strong academic foundation in the subject

  • Admission to Federal Courts preferred

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Bar admission in Puerto Rico

  • Federal Court admission preferred (not required)

Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Spanish

  • Legal drafting and litigation support proficiency

  • Strong organizational and multitasking ability

  • Familiarity with trademark and copyright prosecution processes

  • Experience using FlexTrac® CTS is a plus
