Job Overview

A well-established law firm is seeking a Tax and Estate Planning Associate Attorney with 1 to 6 years of relevant experience. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented and client-focused attorney who has a strong interest in estate planning, wealth transfer strategies, and tax law. The role offers an excellent opportunity to work closely with high-net-worth individuals, families, and business owners, while developing deep expertise in a specialized and high-demand practice area.

Duties

  • Draft wills, revocable and irrevocable trusts, powers of attorney, and other estate planning documents

  • Advise clients on estate, gift, generation-skipping transfer (GST), and income tax planning strategies

  • Assist in structuring wealth transfers, charitable giving, and business succession plans

  • Perform legal research and prepare memoranda on estate, trust, and tax law issues

  • Collaborate with partners on complex planning for high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth clients

  • Prepare or assist in the review of federal and state tax returns (706, 709, 1041, etc.)

  • Engage in trust and estate administration, including probate matters and fiduciary compliance

  • Maintain and build strong client relationships through excellent communication and service

Requirements

  • 1 to 6 years of experience in estate planning and/or tax law

  • Strong working knowledge of federal gift, estate, and generation-skipping transfer tax rules

  • Experience handling estate and trust administration (preferred but not required)

  • Familiarity with planning strategies involving GRATs, IDGTs, SLATs, and charitable vehicles

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications

  • Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction (state bar membership in relevant state preferred)

  • LL.M. in Taxation or Estate Planning (preferred but not required)

Skills

  • Excellent drafting and analytical skills

  • Strong research and written communication abilities

  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills

  • Professional demeanor and ability to manage sensitive client matters with discretion
