A law firm based in Topeka, KS, is seeking a skilled Appellate Attorney to join their growing Appellate Department. This remote position focuses on drafting and preparing arguments to appeal administrative decisions related to disability law. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, be capable of working independently, and have a background in Social Security Disability law or appellate work. An active attorney license from a State Bar association is required, with a preference for licenses in MO, KS, or OK.

Duties:

  • Draft and prepare appellate briefs and legal arguments to appeal administrative decisions.
  • Conduct comprehensive legal research and analysis to support appellate arguments.
  • Review and assess case records and administrative decisions to identify grounds for appeal.
  • Develop and present strategic legal arguments effectively in written form.
  • Collaborate with clients and legal team members to gather necessary information and evidence.
  • Manage a caseload of appellate cases independently with minimal direct supervision.
  • Stay updated on changes in Social Security Disability law and appellate procedures.
  • Communicate clearly and regularly with clients regarding their appeals and provide strategic advice.
  • Prepare and file various legal documents, including briefs and motions, by deadlines.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active attorney license through a State Bar association, preferably in MO, KS, or OK.
  • Experience in appellate work or Social Security Disability law (preferred).
  • Demonstrated experience in writing and filing appeals.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and handle a remote workload efficiently.

  • Advanced knowledge of appellate procedures and legal writing.
  • Proficiency in legal research and analysis.
  • Ability to draft compelling and persuasive appellate briefs.
