Job Overview:
A nationally recognized law firm is seeking a Senior Associate or Counsel with extensive experience in commodities, derivatives, and CFTC regulatory matters to join its Financial Services practice. This role focuses on regulatory compliance, documentation, and enforcement matters impacting trading firms, financial institutions, and energy market participants. The position presents an opportunity to work with a market-leading team on high-profile matters at the intersection of finance, law, and energy.

Location:

  • St. Louis, MO

Duties:

  • Advise clients on compliance with the Commodity Exchange Act and CFTC regulations

  • Draft and negotiate documentation related to swaps, derivatives, and commodity trading

  • Guide clients through regulatory issues and enforcement actions, including FERC oversight (preferred)

  • Work with financial and energy clients, including traders, dealers, and end users

  • Support complex transactions and regulatory analysis for both domestic and global matters

  • Collaborate with cross-office legal teams to deliver strategic regulatory solutions

Requirements:

  • 5–10 years of experience practicing financial services or regulatory law

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Commodity Exchange Act and CFTC regulatory framework

  • Proficiency in derivatives and swaps documentation

  • Familiarity with FERC regulations and energy market enforcement is a plus

  • Track record of advising institutional clients in financial and energy sectors

  • Ability to manage large-scale legal matters and regulatory investigations

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school

Certifications:

  • Admission to the bar in at least one U.S. jurisdiction

Skills:

  • Advanced legal research and writing abilities

  • Strong negotiation and drafting capabilities

  • Deep understanding of trading and market infrastructure

  • Excellent client communication and relationship management skills

  • Collaborative mindset and ability to lead or support multi-disciplinary teams
