Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Senior Associate Attorney in Hiawatha, IA. The successful candidate will work closely with the firm's owner, attorneys, and staff to support the team and assist clients in managing creditors, preserving assets, and minimizing taxes.

Duties

  • Perform research, draft briefs, pleadings, and motions.
  • Argue motions in court on behalf of clients during legal proceedings.
  • Provide guidance and advice to associate attorneys and paralegals.
  • Maintain excellent communication with clients, advisors, and opposing counsel.
  • Supervise and assist staff in evaluating clients' financial, tax, and legal positions.
  • Assist clients in setting realistic goals and designing strategies to achieve them.
  • Represent clients at mediations, negotiations, depositions, and in court.
  • Conduct new client meetings to promote the firm's legal services.

Requirements

  • Able to work independently while handling multiple files.
  • Five years of experience as a senior associate in the legal industry.
  • Member of state and local bar associations in good standing.
  • Experience advocating for clients in trials, mediation, and arbitration.
  • Excellent time management and interpersonal skills.
  • Persuasive writing and verbal communication skills.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree with a law degree from an accredited law school (LLM, JSD, or J.D. degree).

Certifications

  • Member of state and local bar associations.

Skills

  • Experience in bankruptcy and debt restructuring.
  • Knowledge of bankruptcy and commercial law.
  • Familiarity with the agricultural industry.
  • Understanding of income tax and its impact on businesses.
  • Negotiation practice.
  • Ability to evaluate outcomes in bankruptcy scenarios.
  • Ability to determine lien priorities on real and personal property.
