The head of Uteem Chambers, Muhammad Reza Uteem, has for the past 15 years been advising international clients on complex legal issues arising in the fields of banking and finance, securities law, corporate law, cross border insolvency, international tax and trusts laws and dispute resolution. He was formerly an associate at the US firm Winthrop Stimson Putnam & Robert (now Pilsburry Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP) and worked in its Hong Kong, Tokyo and Singapore offices. He is assisted by a team of highly qualified legal professionals including lawyers qualified in Mauritius, England and Bangladesh. Uteem Chambers' advised a global bank in the financing of an acquisition of an Indian telecommunication company worth over $3.5 billion. The firm also acted for senior lenders in aircraft leasing transactions including Islamic leasing. The firm was involved in the setting up of several multi million private equity funds for investment into India, China and Africa mainly in the infrastructure and telecoms sectors. Uteem Chambers has been involved in several high profile litigation and arbitration cases involving cross border disputes. Recent assignments include successfully representing a shareholder before the Privy Council and a leading US laboratory in an international arbitration.
