Bellaire office of our client seeks associate bankruptcy attorney preferably with 3 years of experience. The candidate will be responsible for a wide variety of tasks associated with handling a legal caseload consisting primarily of Chapter 13 and Chapter 7 bankruptcy cases, as well as consumer litigation cases. Will file Chapter 13 and Chapter 7 bankruptcy cases. Prepare legal correspondence, pleadings, and motions. Meet with potential clients and evaluate potential Chapter 13 and Chapter 7 bankruptcy cases. Handle regular court appearances primarily in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas, as well as state county, district, and justice courts around the Houston and surrounding areas. Interpret laws, rulings, and regulations and provide legal advice and analysis to the firm and clients. Communicate with potential clients, current clients, opposing attorneys, bankruptcy trustees, court personnel etc. Advanced knowledge and thorough understanding of bankruptcy law is required. Significant experience filing and handling Chapter 13 and Chapter 7 bankruptcy cases will be considered in lieu of 3 years of experience as a practicing bankruptcy attorney. Experience practicing in federal district and federal bankruptcy court is essential. Knowledge of both federal and Texas bankruptcy and consumer protection laws is needed. License to practice law in Texas is required. Admittance to practice in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas is essential. The candidate will review and execute Payment Change Notices, Post-Petition Fee Notices, Transfers of Claim, and Proofs of Claim. Will conduct Chapter 13 Plan Reviews. Attend court hearings (both telephonic and in person). Prepare Motions for Relief from the Automatic Stay, Objections to Chapter 13 Plan, and various pleadings associated with the representation of secured creditors in bankruptcy matters.
