Job Overview:
A reputable law firm is seeking a full-time Associate Attorney to handle a dual caseload involving Workers’ Compensation and Social Security Disability (SSD) matters. This role combines courtroom coverage and legal writing, requiring a detail-oriented and client-focused professional capable of managing all aspects of litigation and client communication. Ideal candidates will have experience in both practice areas and the ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative legal team.

Location:

  • Pennsylvania (statewide coverage and travel required)

Duties:

Workers’ Compensation Responsibilities:

  • Attend court appearances and depositions throughout Pennsylvania

  • Draft findings of fact, conclusions of law, and briefs for submission to Workers’ Compensation Judges

  • Write appellate briefs and handle occasional appeals to the Workers’ Compensation Appeal Board

  • Prepare legal filings for the Commonwealth Court, including petitions, docketing statements, and reproduced records

  • Conduct legal research on workers’ compensation matters

  • Summarize and review published appellate decisions for relevance and impact

Social Security Disability Responsibilities:

  • Review and screen new SSD client cases for viability and potential success

  • Evaluate income sources impacting disability benefits

  • Track and respond to appeal deadlines and statute of limitation issues

  • Review medical and vocational records for case support

  • Set realistic expectations for clients regarding claim timelines

  • Prepare clients and cases for SSD hearings, including brief writing and conference preparation

  • Recommend appropriate actions before and after hearings and complete post-hearing summaries

  • Collaborate with and delegate tasks to case managers and support staff

  • Maintain ongoing communication with clients through meetings and phone conferences

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university

  • 1–4 years of experience in Workers’ Compensation law (defense or claimant side)

  • 1–3 years of experience handling Social Security Disability cases

  • Ability to travel to hearings across the state

  • Ability to manage a diverse caseload independently and efficiently

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.)

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.)

Certifications:

  • Licensed and in good standing with the Pennsylvania Bar

Skills:

  • Strong legal research and writing skills

  • Solid courtroom and deposition experience

  • Excellent time management and organizational ability

  • Clear and empathetic communication with clients

  • Proficiency in case management and legal documentation software

  • Strong attention to detail and analytical thinking
