Job Overview

A law firm seeks a highly motivated Patent Attorney specializing in Mechanical Arts to join its Washington, DC office. The successful candidate will engage in drafting and prosecuting U.S. and foreign patent applications, as well as providing strategic intellectual property counsel.

Duties

  • Draft and prosecute U.S. and foreign patent applications in mechanical engineering fields.
  • Draft and review intellectual property and technology-related agreements and licenses.
  • Provide patentability, freedom to operate, and due diligence assessments.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in patent preparation and prosecution in the mechanical arts.
  • Excellent academic credentials and strong research, writing, analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and multi-task efficiently.
  • U.S. Patent & Trademark Office registration.
  • Licensed to practice law in Washington, DC.

Education

  • Juris Doctor, higher degree, or equivalent in Law.
  • Bachelor of Science or higher degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering, or similar engineering degree and/or work experience.

Certifications

  • U.S. Patent & Trademark Office registration.

  • Strong research, writing, analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Independent thinker with the ability to multi-task efficiently.
