A law firm seeks a mid- to senior-level Intellectual Property Associate with a background in computer science or electrical engineering to join their team in any of their office locations. The ideal candidate will have experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications, with technical expertise in computer circuits, multiprocessor design, or telecommunications.

Duties

  • Interview inventors and prepare patent applications.
  • Conduct all stages of US and foreign patent prosecution, including ex parte appeals.
  • Perform validity, infringement, and freedom to operate studies, and prepare legal opinion letters.
  • Provide legal counsel on intellectual property matters, focusing on patent issues.
  • Collaborate with partners, associates, and support staff for effective case management.
  • Stay updated on developments in intellectual property law and contribute to the firm's knowledge base.

Requirements

  • Two to five years of patent prosecution experience.
  • Familiarity with intellectual property law and patent litigation procedures.
  • Strong research and writing skills.
  • Superior analytical skills.
  • Litigation experience is a bonus but not required.

Education

  • JD from an accredited law school.
  • Technical background (BS/MS preferred).

Certifications

  • Registered practitioner at the US Patent and Trademark Office or Patent Bar Eligible.

Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in legal research and analysis.
