Job Overview

A law firm seeks an Intellectual Property Associate to join its Washington, D.C. office. This role involves working on innovative patent prosecution and litigation matters alongside a team of seasoned attorneys.

Duties

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications before the USPTO.
  • Develop and manage strategic IP portfolios for clients.
  • Provide mentorship and training to junior associates.
  • Conduct pre-litigation diligence.
  • Draft pleadings, conduct legal research, and prepare expert witnesses.
  • Engage in post-grant proceedings, such as inter partes reviews and post-grant reviews.
  • Participate in taking and defending depositions.

Requirements

  • 2-4 years of post-JD experience in patent prosecution and IP litigation.
  • Admission to practice before the USPTO.
  • Licensed to practice law and in good standing in the state/jurisdiction where the position is based (MA, NY, CA, or DC).

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering required; preference for a graduate degree or industry experience in these disciplines.

Certifications

  • Admission to practice before the USPTO.

Skills

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
