Job Overview

A law firm seeks an Environmental Associate Attorney with over three years of experience to join their team in Albany, NY. The role offers hybrid work flexibility, combining in-office and remote work based on business needs. The successful candidate will engage with a diverse client base, including businesses, municipalities, and agencies, on complex environmental issues.

Duties

  • Equip clients to navigate evolving regulatory landscapes and statutory changes.
  • Secure approvals under complex regulatory schemes like the Clean Water Act.
  • Advance matters before the NYSDEC Office of Hearings and Mediation Services.
  • Negotiate resolutions of enforcement matters with regulatory agencies.
  • Conduct environmental analysis under SEQRA, preparing necessary documents.
  • Assist with permitting for development projects and infrastructure siting.
  • Interact with Environmental Health and Safety personnel for regulatory compliance.
  • Manage crises and resolve issues from high-profile environmental incidents.
  • Support environmental litigation, including CERCLA cost-recovery and disputes.
  • Participate in cross-disciplinary work with the firm's Corporate and Commercial Practice group.
  • Mentor and develop law students and young attorneys.

Requirements

  • Admission to the New York Bar.
  • Over three years of relevant environmental law experience.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree and J.D. from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Admission to the New York Bar.

Skills

  • Strong understanding of environmental laws and regulations.
